Kings and Queens
Kings and Queens is an exploration of inequity and a view into resilient communities on the south side of Chicago. Irene Robinson, an activist and grandmother, navigates the aftermath of a school closing in her neighborhood. Irene comes face to face with the harm resulting from policies and decisions that are at the heart of school privatization. This is one of many stories Media Sutra partnered with the Partnership for the Future of Learning to produce that illuminates structural inequity and its connection to public education.

CRE Stories
Many students of color go to schools where curriculum does not fully embrace their cultures, histories, or lived experiences. But what would it take to establish a positive school culture that respects and honors all of it's community members? Across nine episodes, we meet parents, teachers, principals and students who share their experiences of racism and bias in public school systems, and why culturally responsive education is an effective strategy to combat those forces. You can access the full series and accompanying resources at crestories.org
On the Rise: Cincinnati's Community Learning Centers
Community schools (known as Community Learning Centers in Cincinnati) are the kind of public schools that families want and children need: coordinated, inclusive, comprehensive, adaptive, responsive and above all else, equitable. This six-part series, in collaboration with the Partnership for the Future of Learning, explores just how a close-knit, dedicated neighborhood community is paving the way for public education.
In Pursuit of Liberty
This film weaves an immigration story with aspirations for meaningful educational opportunity and how and that shapes a teacher who is also a sister and a daughter. It reveals the humanity and family behind teaching. And it centers liberty in relationship to justice and education. This story is an offering a timely reminder of who we are -- as educators, as citizens, and as the latest generation of Americans tasked with helping this country inch closer to fulfilling and expanding its promise and potential.
A ROSe in LA
Dorsey High School in South Central Los Angeles is another example of how predominantly Black and brown schools are consistently denied funding they are eligible for. Because of this, class sizes can reach over 40 students, and teachers must ration supplies. However, through Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS) student activists are fighting for change, justice and resources by advocating for community schools and full resourcing.
Better Days are Coming
Better Days Are Coming tells the story of Davonte Johnson, a student at East English Village Preparatory Academy in Detroit, MI. Davonte’s story is not unfamiliar; it is that of too many Black kids who must, on a daily basis contend with under resourced schools. This does not have to be - the funding is there, but the programs and schools are not receiving it.
